Hello all,
I have a 1992 4 door civic sedan with a 1.5 l and an auto transmission. Lately, it will crank but not start. Two mechanic visits later I am told the ECU has water damage. I sent it to GoECU, but they returned it as not being repairable. So, what are my options now? Can I repair it? I do not need to worry about a warranty claim. Or should I look for an Ebay replacement? How will I know if I order the right one, or a good one?

Source another P06 ECU and see if that is the issue. You don't have to buy one, just borrow one from a friend/neighbor to test.

It may be something simple such as bad ignitor, starter, etc if the other ECU isn't the culprit.

 

Thank you for the advice. The second shop I took it to had it running on a technician’s ecu, but he wouldn’t sell it, the rpm limiter had been removed for racing.

 

Bad ECU's are becoming more and more common. Buyer beware when purchasing from sellers outside of your local area.
