Need Help: K-Swap EK Passenger Axle Issue (EG Subframe)
Hey everyone,
I’m in the middle of a K-swap on my 1999 Civic EK, and I’ve run into some trouble with the passenger side axle. I’ve swapped over to an EG subframe and originally tried an axle that ended up being too long.
To fix that, I picked up a shorter axle from a 2012–2015 Civic. It fits the half shaft fine, but the outer CV joint that goes into the knuckle is too big it won’t fit into the EK hub.
Any advice on how to fix this or what part I need would be really appreciated. Thanks in advance!
Re: Need Help: K-Swap EK Passenger Axle Issue (EG Subframe)
You need axles from either a '02-05 Civic Si or a '02-06 RSX Base model with a manual transmission. These two choices have the same outer spline dimensions as your 1999 Civic. If you insist on using the axles with the big 36mm outer spline, then you will need to source some 36mm hubs and wheel bearings for your current spindles.

You are both likely suffering from the same issue: The Intermediate shaft that you have is for the K24 applications (Accord, CR-V, Element, TSX, etc.) and is LONGER than the K20 style intermediate shaft. You MUST acquire a shorter K20 intermediate shaft and then your right side axle will fit properly. Trying to utilize the longer K24 intermediate shaft will require a custom shortened axle on the right side... which doesn't make sense. Yonaka offers the appropriate axle for both of you. I know the Yonaka part works... not sure about what you have pictured. Cardone products are typically crap... did you notice the 3-Star rating ? I suggest you save up and get the higher quality part. I have found that when one builds on the model that "When you need ___________________ (fill in the blank for whatever part you need at the time), doing a quick Google search to find the CHEAPEST product that appears to match the requirement, and then hitting the "Buy It Now" bubble is a terrible strategy for reliability and compatibility. For instance: If you have a Jack Spania engine harness... your axle issues will be the least of your problems.
