Default Can’t get the timing belt tensioner grommet installed

Recently had my timing belt done and noticed they didn’t put this grommet back that goes over the tensioner bolt. Got one from a junkyard and couldn’t get it into place. Anyone have this issue before?

Use a pick to push it in. If not, leave it alone.

I had that issue and just gave up on trying to get it in.

Good to know. I thought there was an issue with the bolt or something. Thanks

Wipe the insertion edges of the grommet w vaseline & make sure you're installing the grommet dome in the direction facing you. The dome should be humped up over the bolt in the direction facing you. Doubt that it would even install if reversed. IDK if that's your issue, only that it might be. As others have said, using a tool to push the lip of the grommet over the edge of the cover will help. However I would first try it with something that doesn't pierce the rubber, whether it's a small screwdriver, a chop stick, or whatever.
Edited to add: warming the grommet in hot water may make it more pliable & easier to install.
