So, I know the most common issue is with the fuel pump relay. I have a total of three relays (two used and one brand new). I’ve pulled apart the two used ones to inspect for bad solder joints, and after comparing them to known bad relays, I don’t think any of mine are faulty. I can also hear the relay click when I turn the key, so it seems like it’s activating.

I’ve also checked all the 15-amp fuses — none are blown, corroded, or the wrong size.

I pulled the intake and used starting fluid to see if the engine would fire up. It starts immediately on the first crank but, of course, dies quickly — which makes sense since it’s only running off the starting fluid.

I haven’t replaced the fuel pump, but I did apply 12V power directly to it using a power box. The pump turns on and does pump fuel while still installed in the tank (has about a half tank still). I even pulled the pump to inspect it — the sock isn’t clogged, the tank is clean.

So now I’m at a bit of a loss as to why the system won’t prime on its own. I feel like I’m missing something obvious, or maybe there’s a break in a wire somewhere. I’m unsure at this point. Any help would be appreciated!

With the fans and radio off, do you hear the Main relay click on when turning the key to II(ON)?
After a moment do you hear the main relays fuel relay click OFF?
While this is happening do you hear the fuel pump itself buzz hum?
You can also listen for the pump with the fuel cap off and have someone turn the key to II(ON) while next to the fill tube.

If everything is functioning correctly, then there may be an issue with the harness between the pump and relay.

Don't ignore ground wires.
