Whining noise from engine bay
Hello everyone! Hope you doing good. Today I come with a little problem im having on my civic SI (D16a9). Well, a little back in time from the car, I got it like two and a half years ago, it wasn't neglected but it wasnt on perfect shape. I did the oil change a little bit out of time (not miles), so as the oil pan what's a little fucked up I decided to replaced it too(just scratches no dents, oil pan plug threads where fucked). That's when problems began, after doing all that, put the oil (10w40 and Honda genuine oil filter) so, everything in order, I cranked her up, oil light came off, turn engine off, check oil level and started it again. That's when I noticed a whining sound coming from the engine bay, I supposed PS pump because it's pretty similar, but filled the reservoir and the whine persisted. Noise fades as engine warm ups, oil light takes between a second or two to turn off when cold start. I suspect the oil pump is going off, but being too sudden of a matter it make me wonder if it's that or something else,(before the oil change nothing of this happened) I'm going to buy some oil pressure gauge to have on the dash. But meanwhile I wanted to ask before start changing parts. I will search the video I recorded and upload it here. (Sorry for all the text) Thanks in advance!
Remove the P/S belt, restart the engine and see if the noise continues. If it does, then the P/S pump is not the problem. Sometimes when an oil pan is re-installed, too much Honda-Bond is used and some of the excess on the inside of the pan breaks off and lodges itself in the oil pick-up... thus, restricting oil flow and potentially oil starving/damaging the engine. If it isn't the P/S pump, pull the pan and check all that you have changed.
