Reliability over 200k miles
Hello!
I’m currently debating buying my dad’s 2015 Honda Accord from him since I am moving to Kansas which is 10 hours away from home. I currently daily drive a Subaru but am hoping to get a Honda which is more comfortable and reliable for the long drives.
The Accord has 225k miles and has had very little issues over the last 10 years since he bought it new. My dad mentioned the transmission feels like it may be slipping. Do you think the CVT or other major things could fail soon? Is this a good car to get or should I look for a lower mileage older Honda?

My 13 Accord has over 227k and has been well maintained. Same engine and transmission. I kept the tranny fluid changed to be safe. No major repairs. I think it might be the most reliable Honda ever made. Have a Honda dealer double check the tranny. Also try www.driveaccord.net 9th generation forum.
Buying from family is usually a safe bet, but if you say its slipping then that's a red flag because the 2015 Accord uses a CVT transmission, which is incredibly expensive to replace worth. At 225k miles, the tranny may cost more than the cars worth. A slipping transmission usually means the unit is failing, and I wouldn't trust it to make a 10-hour drive to Kansas without leaving you stranded. Unless your dad is practically giving you the car for free, I would honestly pass and look for an older Honda with lower mileage or a traditional automatic transmission. If hes gonna give it to you real cheap then i say go for it you can always buy a wrecked car and swap transmission f your into getting your hands dirty. Best of luck
