What scan tool should I purchase.....
Guys, my new to me 2010 clunker I am trying to bring back in to service, has a dashboard that is lit up. TPMS, ABS and air bag are all lit up. Car was in a wreck and have now got it back on the road , rolling. Pretty sure airbag light is due to a hard code from driver bag deploymnet. TPMS light is on as there are no tire sensors in the tires. In looking at scan tools for tpms I see many that only program that name brand sensors. I prefer to purchase Honda sensors, but don't know if which one I need that will program OEM sensors. Bottom line is I think a scan tool that will help me troubleshoot and repair all these problems and would be beneficial . But there are so many different name brands and models to choose from, I get overwhelmed. What are you using and how do you like it.....
I finally made a choice and purchased the INNOVA Car Scan Pro, model 5610 OBD2 scanner. Not cheap at over $300 bucks. Not having lots of experience using scanners , old fart here, it looked a bit intiminadating, but is quite user friendly. As usual, the manual is written for folks who know what they're doing and not a beginner, but I like it. It does TPMS, SRS,ABS as well as regular and live obd code testing. So, with the scanner I have fixed the ABS light, bad rear wheel sensor and fixed a couple of the SRS system problems. I have several other cars/trucks and have used the unit to reset the oil change nag lights, NO more digging thru the various manuals looking for the procedure to do an oil reset at oil change time. Im liking this big time. It does a whole bunch more stuff than I have listed and will be using it in the future for other issues Im sure. It supposed to do ABS bleeding, not sure what that is but some cheaper scanners don't do that. Not sure what bi-direction active testing is either, but the unit does that. So, far , I like it and suggest you check it out if you are considering making a purchase.
