Just recently picked up a 98 Accord I know the motor is an f23 but theres no other stamping on the block as to which series of the f23 it is. I know with the k series if the block just says for example "k20" than its likely to be a jdm motor but in the states the stamping say "k20a2". If that happens to be the case with my motor as well than that would explain a lot of weird stuff thats done with the car.

 

The stamping is on the front of the engine block, right before the seam where the engine mates to the transmission, to the left of the exhaust manifold.

 

it just says F23 it doesnt show anything indicating which variant of it

 

Probably a replacement JDM engine, these will not have the 'A1', 'A4' or 'A5' designations, just 'F23'. Which will be the equivalent of USDM F23A1.
