Misfire please help!!
Wassup yall. Have had this civic for about 2 years now and Ive recently been having misfires.
When im steady on highway it’s fine, but if I get off throttle and get back on there’s a slight jerk. Also from a dead stop, the revs will bounce before finally getting going after some extra throttle.
Timing belt was done not too long ago maybe 20k miles or so. Spark plugs and wires also done about 5k ago.
I was thinking it could be the coil pack but my go to guy said these engines don’t have coil packs (d16 non vtec) and he suggested that it may be the distributor that’s bad.
My o2 sensor is also bad. Has been that way since I got the car.
Just looking for any suggestions on where to look first? Prior to this the car has been extremely reliable. Have driven from NYC to Toronto and back a couple times, no issues. Nowadays, it’s not being driven as much as I’ve been living over the road.
Inside the distributor there's an ignition coil. The symptoms you've described are similar to what I had. I remedied my car by changing the main relay, which would be on the right side of your dash, behind the glovebox.
As mentioned, the coil pack may have a problem. I’d highly recommend addressing your O2 sensor, as this helps the ECU determine the air/fuel mixture. You have a known problem, address that first, and see where it stands before throwing more parts at it.
