Default EG Hatch Wiring Harness

I have a 92 EG hatch that i bought with a blown up mini-me swap in it. I put a d16y8 out of a 2000 ex civic in it. I have been having issues with idle surge once the engine is warm and narrowed it down to my missing o2 sensor. The problem I am having is that I have no spot on my current harness to plug it in and cannot find what car it came out of.

I am currently running a p28 ecu with an obd1 harness on my y8 and was wondering if I should get a y7 harness to be able to have my 02 sensor? I have the harness/ecu from the 2000 ex the engine came from, but then I wouldnt be able to use my instrument cluster. I need advice on what harness/ecu to run so that I can have my vtec and a o2 sensor to prevent the annoying idle surge.

If you are using a '92-95 Civic Si/EX engine harness, the primary O2 sensor plug is found at the front left corner of the engine just over the top of the transmission... very close to the engine code plate. If you use an original D16Z6 exhaust manifold (or an aftermarket header with the O2 bung in the same location), everything plugs right in. If you have a header that locates the O2 sensor bung at the rear near the collector flange, you could always purchase an O2 sensor extension harness to bring the wiring around from the front to the rear. Idle surge can be caused by many things... and it usually isn't because of the O2 sensor being missing.

You cannot use a '96-00 Y8 engine harness... it doesn't even come close to plugging into your chassis. You MUST modify a '92-95 engine harness to fit your Y8.

I went ahead and ordered a 5 pin O2 sensor so hopefully that fixes it, it should have plenty of room to reach the harness. What else should I check? I have verified I do not have a vacuum leak, new IACV, all new coolant temp sensors and a untuned ECU. I am willing to try anything at this point to not have it surge at a red light lmao

5-Wire O2 ? That sensor doesn't work with a P28... only a 4-wire O2. I have never seen a 5-wire for a '92-95 Civic, however, the "VX" version does have a WIDE-BAND O2 A/F sensor and the plug is an eight wire style with seven wires in it.

So I guess I do have a 8 wire, thats my bad not sure where I got 5 wire from. Am I able to rewire the 8 wire into a 4 wire to work with the p28?

No, but you can surely move some pins around at the ecu to suit a regular 4 wire HO2S, repin the sensor end to a regular 4 wire connector (they are the same type connector, so this is super easy) and plug in your oxygen sensor.

Sorry for the delay in response, been busy with work. I have a 4 pin O2 sensor now and ordered a female connector to wire onto my harness. Do you know what pins should go where on the ECU? Ive read around in some other forums and it doesnt seem to be very consistent. I have a VX harness and a P28 ECU
