I'm pretty much brand new to Hondas and cars in general and I would like to turbo my stock d16y7. I'm not expecting (or really wanting) to push more than 200, but I was wondering if I should upgrade the internals before throwing boost at it.

If i should upgrade the internals, what would yall recommend?

Im currently looking at a 44mm turbo, possibly smaller, just something that spools fast and will get it to at least 150hp.

Honestly, if you’re only shooting for 150–200hp, I wouldn’t waste time upgrading internals. The D16Y7 can handle low boost with a good tune. People overbuild for numbers this motor can take stock all day. Focus on a clean turbo setup, good fuel system, and proper engine management. A small turbo will spool fast and feel great. If you ever want to go past 220–250hp, then think about rods, pistons, and head studs. Also, don't forget to calculate travel cost if you need to drive for tuning or parts.

 

I made 185whp/175tq with a t3 on stock internals and a y8 manifold. It was a fun street car. 13.60 @ 105.
