Is this a d16y7 crankshaft that has work done to it or a d16z6 crankshaft
The other day I was taking apart my motor to replace the pistons and rods and when I turned over the motor having the bottom of the crankshaft facing up I noticed there was holes in the crankshaft not sure if that’s the d16y7 crankshaft that has work done to the crankshaft or is it a d16z6 crankshaft bc my head comes from a 93 civic si and I’m still figuring stuff out about my car I just bought 4 months ago that the previous owner supposedly didn’t know about or didn’t tell me. I had watched a video of this guy talking about d16z6 how he thinks they are the best and he mentions how they have drilled crankshafts I think or something like that anybody’s input can help a lot thank you!
The holes that you see in your photo (on the middle counter-weights) were drilled to BALANCE the crankshaft. It is done when a new crankshaft is created by Honda... but it can also be "re-done" when a crankshaft is reconditioned. Who knows from the single photo above which you have.
The reference about why a Z6 crankshaft is better than a Y7 crankshaft has to do with the oiling holes in the main journals... the earlier crankshafts have better oiling.

Damn and I’m pretty sure I can’t rev past like 7500 on that stock crankshaft right on boost? With also a stock valve train unless I get a z6 crank shaft how high u think I can rev on boost with long rods and vitara pistons?
