Can you change the Coolant Temp sensor on ZC without draining coolant?
Got a D16a9 and I think the CTS is bad or going bad. I want to try and change it but don't want to drain the system if possible. This doable? Any tips?
Yes, some will leak out, but it is not necessary to completely drain the whole system to swap the sensor. Just have the new one close by and ready to thread into the hole when you remove the old one.
If you let it sit overnight it will probably leak out less than if you drive it into your garage right before working on it. Either way, it shouldn't leak a ton.
Wait for the engine to cool down to ambient temperature for sure...
Then, remove the sensor with one hand and stick a finger in the whole with the other hand. Swap sensors with the first hand, then re-insert the new sensor as you remove your finger from the hole. Some coolant will leak out, but it will be minimal with this method.
