Reviving AC?
89 civic, I have 1.5 cans of that old Freon stuff to recharge old AC s
BUT the fuse blows when I try to run the ac at all so idk if I’m wasting the cans. Is the fuse blowing a sign of something else?
what are my chances the fuse is blowing because the system is dry and if I put that Freon in it will start working?
I have a fridge from 1953 that never dies so I’m hoping the system in my civic is just thirsty.
at least the auxiliary fan comes on when I do put a new fuse in and push the button. So that’s a start.

Blowing fuse is more likely related to either a short or an excess amp draw... disconnect the AC compressor connector at the compressor and see if you still blow fuse! if blown you found your compressor clutch issue or somewhere else to the relay or wiring... if no fuse blown, the compressor clutch or wiring is to be suspected.
As for charging, first you need to vacuum the system to see if it can hold a charge, a small leak your vacuum will not hold. You can rent a vacuum pump from autozone as well as the manifold to monitor the vaccum level.
