Thoughts/Advice on quality Timing Belt Kits and Water Pump
I have an 2008 V6 Accord with 151K mi, belt last changed by dealership in 2014 @30K mi, I bought it from my mother in 2017 with around 55K mi, and I have maintained it thoroughly since then. It's now a bit overdue for another timing belt, and I preparing to order the parts for the task. Can anyone shed any expertise or advise on the requirement of OE vs. parts quality ratings of Continental, Gates, Dayco, others not mentioned, AND must avoids etc., such as cheap Chinese stuff on Amazon. Also I'd like vetting on some YT advice on the job :
1)getting the original J series spring loaded OE belt tensioner HONDA part# 14520P8AA01 vs the one they switched to which is the hydraulic grenade style due to prone to hydraulic leaking. See this short YouTube vid:
2) Not replacing any engine seals unless they are leaking due to the fact there may be some challenges difficulty in getting them to seal properly.
3) Adding the FSM upgrade shim for the idler pulley on the 2008 Accord EX model if it isn't present already. I don't believe there's any issue with the belt rubbing or noise from it rubbing, so it may have already been addressed in 14' or not affected this model.
Thank you for your thoughts!
