Default 95 Civic DX Sedan electrical issues

so a couple months ago my car was not wanting to start and the battery light was always flashing, i would smack the battery with a hammer whenever the battery gave out (not a smart decision in retrospect but it worked) i got some battery caps things and replaced and tightened the bolts and while it doesnt die on me anymore and it starts fine in the morning, my ash tray light went out a month or so ago, im not sure if it could be a fuse issue or what? but theres some more things about my car that are getting worse slowly and im just curious about how to get the ash tray light back on

Bad bulb ? You can pull the connector and then test to see if you have 12v at the plug... if so, you have a bad bulb. If not, check the appropriate fuse.
