94 Del sol Frankenstein. fuel pump issues. help?
i will try to keep this short. i am a ase certified technician and shop instructor. my daughter was given a 94 Del sol 5 speed that is a "Frankenstein". A d15b jdm motor with a 1.6L P2A-6 head off a d16y7 with the info i have found. i was recently driving the vehicle and i started to smell an electrical overheating/ burning smell and it quit. the fuel pump wouldn't turn on. i got it to the school and found the ecm was cooked. a capacitor at the top of the board (connector side) looked like it melted. ecm in the car # 37820-p06-a01. from what i have found is the harness had to be changed to run the engine with the ecm (obd1). got the brand new used virgin* ecm (*non-modified ecm) which said it came out of a 92-95 civic DX/LX & del sol s mt and installed it along with a new PGM-FI main relay. the vehicle cranks but does not activate the fuel pump. i can get and do have the original wiring diagram for 94 del sol 1.5 and of course nothing matches it appers. the diagram shows fuel pump control is c406 (A) @ a7 and a8 at the ecm and pins 4 or 17 (early production) is listed as a green/ yellow stripe the harness in the car is what looks like orange with white stripe.
i found a obd1 Honda ecu pinout. now i have not started going through the list yet to check the pin outs. i was hoping some one might know or have had this issue & what or where the issue is.
thanks in advance

When you turn the key to the ON position (where the key falls back to when you attempt to start and then release), does the "Check Engine" light stay illuminated or does it come on, and then after 3 seconds or so, turns off ?
Do you hear the fuel pump prime and the main relay click after about 3 seconds ? If not, you have bad power distribution inside your ECU. This could be bad capacitors, damaged traces, or bad transistors/devices that activate specific pathways in the chassis. These ECU's are really old now and failures are becoming more and more common. I suggest you try a "Known Good" ECU... one that plugs directly into your chassis... it really doesn't matter the application for starting/testing purposes, but this will eliminate ALL other potential problem areas if you can crank and start your Del Sol with another ECU.
