Grumbling during startup after transmission rebuild / modification
95 civic ex
p20 b000 transmission
I installed an mFactory Limited Slip Differential and Carbon Synchros for first time ever while replacing my Input Shaft Bearing for a second time.
The carbon synchros were kinda tight but just the bigger ones on one countershaft.
i could dry shift into all the gears but it was kinda tight i thought it was just because no fluid in it.
i could turn the input shaft by hand in all gears except 4th and 5th gear. They moved a little bit easily but then stop. I could probably turn it with more leverage.
I took the shaft apart again and double checked but no change so i put everything back together and it grumbled during startup so i didn't start it. Also wheels hard to turn when in air and i don't think it's the calipers. Starter seems fine.
now im starting over and hoping nothing is destroyed. I guess im removing the carbon synchros. Not gonna proceed until every gear is turning smoothly.
i searched i can't find anyone who had grumbling during startup after transmission rebuild but i have heard some ppl say carbon synchros were too tight and had to lap them down with a timing belt or something crazy. They sound awesome but i guess im not skilled enough to install them. Please help. This is what it looked like before i put it back together.
Re: Grumbling during startup after transmission rebuild / modification
After replacing diff and mainshaft bearings, how did you measure and set up the free play ? Also, are you sure that you seated the snap ring properly into the top of the countershaft ?
Re: Grumbling during startup after transmission rebuild / modification
I know about the measuring but i didn't i just made sure the differential could move with just the case on.
im sure snap ring was seated correctly.
I figured it out it was the Carbon Synchros from synchrotech. They were too tight. I need to send them back or fix them but they were from the bearing and seal kit.
i had to redo the whole thing because of it. Luckily no damage done it is running great.
