Exhaust
I’m sure this has been answered multiple times already but I have a manual 2000 Honda Civic LX and I’ve always had issues with my shifter linkage(not sure which part) hitting my exhaust when going into 5th or reverse. Is there any particular reason as to why this is? Could it be that the linkage has too much slop and that causes it to hit exhaust or is there a different exhaust that I should be running that won’t have me doing that? Please let me know any information you have on the situation. If you have any questions let me know and if links to parts that would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
Get up under the car and find exactly where the shifter makes contact with the exhaust. The most common causes of the issue that you describe is a low quality/modified (poor fitting) exhaust system or a cheap short throw shifter.
And to be fair, I'm a dude in my 40s and there is very little still stock under mine...
And when you do, try to get some photos to share. The issue may be more obvious to the trained eyes reading along.
my bet is a poor fitting replacement B-pipe from a muffler shop or something. the pre-bent stuff usually takes some finesse to install right. could also be a broken hanger or missing bolt.
