I replaced the automatic shifter cable on my 00 Civic, however I can't get the shifter and cable to line up. The car is in park and the shifter is in park.
The threaded part doesn't go back far enough and if it did, the threads stick out the end of the silver piece and wont let the cable go in. Any suggestions on what to do here?
Run a proper sized tap down over the threaded end of the rod... thread it about a half inch deeper on the rod than the current threads are, and then cut the end of the rod off so that you can screw on the end collar and connect to the shift cable.

This is what I figured I would have to do. Thanks for reassuring that it's not a stupid idea!
