Hello, this is my first car that I'm messing around with. It was running until I filled it up for the first time then it died. Won't go past pre-start, I went into the fuel tank siphon some gas out and still no good. Here is a picture of the engine. Am I missing something? Sources say purge valve but I'm not sure.
4 things are required to get an engine to run, fuel air spark and timing. here are some ways to check each one of these things in order of difficulty
Air- Take out the air filter and try to start the car, if it doesn't start then that's probably not the issue
Fuel- take off a fuel line that goes to the fuel filter and turn the key to the position before the car starts, if fuel comes pouring out then your fuel pump is good
Spark- buy an inline spark plug tester and hook it up to each plug and try to start the car with one hooked up at a time, if they don't spark it could be the plugs or the distributor
Timing- there's 2 ways to check timing one is easy and one is free. the easy way is to rent a compression tester from an auto parts store and test compression. if you have no compression of not enough compression on all cylinders you've slipped your timing belt. the free way is to take the valve cover and timing cover off and check all your timing marks to see if they line up.
my guess is its either the distributor or the timing belt since the car ran and then when you shut it off it just wouldn't turn back on
