Default Entire Transmission Replacement or Just Speed Sensor?

Hi all,

I have a 2016 CR-V with 82K miles. I bought it used in 2021, with, to my knowledge, no prior transmission issues. My "D" gear light started blinking yesterday, in addition to the AWD and check engine lights turning on. Additionally, the gear changes feel very clunky and the car needs more pedal push to get moving. After doing a scan, I received code P0717, which, after following this thread, I learned likely means the torque converter turbine speed sensor needs to be replaced. I also received code C0077 which I suspect is unrelated, code 11-02 which I suspect has to do with battery dying earlier this year, and code C1871 which I suspect is the AWD turning off when the transmission issue arose. I have not changed the transmission fluid since getting the car - don't know for sure if anyone did before me, but I'm doubtful.

Now I'm not terribly confident about doing a replacement like this without first getting some professional advice, so I took it to the local (well-reviewed) AAMCO for a free diagnostic. The mechanic there told me that the tranny is shot and will need to be replaced with a re-built (superior) CVT to the tune of $5K.

Now I'm unsure how to proceed. Should I get a second opinion on this, or is there some way for me to tell whether it's just the speed sensor or a whole replacement? Would appreciate any guidance.

Believe AAMCO always says that. I would get a second opinion.
