Eg hatch issues
Just bought my first eg Hatch and it’s got a few issues. Any advice Is appreciated
issue #1- speedometer/odometer isn’t working. Speed sensor looks to be new. I took apart the cluster, cleaned the contacts, and I did notice when I pulled it out that the yellow plug on the back was unplugged. Would that cause it not to work? Haven’t taken it for a drive yet but I will in the morning.
#2 grinds when putting in reverse. If you don’t almost put a hole in the floorboard with the clutch, it likes to grind when I put it in reverse, and I have to slam it. It also has a hard time shifting into first.
#3 headlights not working. Last owner wired some crappy hids a while back, and I think they may be burnt out. How can I undo all of it and use leds?
#3 horn doesn’t work. It has a momo steering wheel (not quick release) but it has a horn, and it seems to be wired, but there’s only one wire hooked up to it. Is that normal?
im sure there are more issues, I just brought the car home yesterday though. TIA

Haven’t taken it for a drive yet but I will in the morning. The yellow plug is for the SRS system... nothing to do with the speedometer. Do you get a "Check Engine" light after driving at least 45mph and then slowing down ?

#3 (or #4) horn doesn’t work. It has a momo steering wheel (not quick release) but it has a horn, and it seems to be wired, but there’s only one wire hooked up to it. Is that normal? Very common "bad install". Making the horn work with the aftermarket steering wheel is actually challenging and requires significant fabrication and the modification of the cable reel.

Thank you for the reply. No check engine light. Also I adjusted the clutch pedal, and everything shifts smoothly. I just started taking the old hid components out, and the wiring is a fat mess. Pretty overwhelming

Replace the cluster and/or the individual gauges. I had a similar issue in my Del Sol and was able to source a used cluster with 100k miles.

synchros are likely shot and tranny needs a rebuild

repair the wires with appropriate wire size and with proper methods (solder and cover with heat shrink tubing)

P/O probably didn’t correct to horn wire at steering column harness
You obviously bought someone else’s headache and half *** work
