Icon4 Element engine revs varying problem - need help to diagnose

Hi,

I have a 2008 Honda Element SC with a K24 engine. I have a real problem with the engine. Half the time the car drives absolutley normally with no issues, but the other half of the time, the engine revs go up and down slighlty. This doesn't just happen at idle if happens when the car is driving too. When this happens whilst the car is in low gear it drives then the revs will drop for a few seconds and it will slow then the revs com back to normal multiple time. This causes the car to jerk as you accelerate. It does seem to be getting worse and very occassionally the revs drop right down and the car loses power quite badly. It seems though when this happens, if I pull over and turn the engine off then restart it goes away. At high gear speeds the rev variation is not so bad and doesnt affect driving but the revs still are variableas I can see on the rev counter..

The car had had a new throttle body but that didnt solve the issue. Another garage told me they think its the fuel pump. I can't see that this is the case though because half the time it drives perfectly fine. The revs only vary sometimes as I said. If it was the fuel pump my thought is that it would happen all the time. I have this car in the Turks and caicos Islands so parts need to be imported. I need to try and diagnose the problem properly before importing parts. Can anyone help identify the issue?
