Long post but really need some insight/advice! Ive made an account just to get some help.
1995 EG Civic SE, D15B7 engine, P06-A0 ECU. Manual. SOHC mpfi. non vtec. OBD1 Idk what other details would be useful.
Code 20 for Electric Load Detector diagnosed through the paperclip method. Two long flashes. My partner borrowed his boss's G-Scan tool and hooked it up to find the ELD is causing the o2 to also throw a code. Tried to clear both, they wont clear. Replaced the o2 sensor. Still wont clear. Got it in September 2021 (birthday gift to myself) and all it needed was an ECU as the old one wasnt allowing the fuel pump to prime. Got a new ecu purchased from ebay in Amercia, which is why the code wont go away as australia ecu dont have the eld compared to american ecu.
Only issue Ive had was the timing belt snapped but was only off the road for 2 weeks. Engine is from a donor, not sure what happened to its original engine but theyre the same D15B7 engine so shouldnt be an issue.
Listing whatever I think is worth mentioning:
- new o2 sensor (obviously)
- new timing belt and replaced all the accessory belts, the pulley and water pump (non interference, a timing gun has confirmed its in time)
- New speed sensor (listed below why i changed this)
- New fuel filter
- swapped the engine fuse box (no point as we dont have eld in the fuse boxes)
- new fuel pump
- checked all fuses
- checked and cleaned all ground wires
- tested pcv valve
- cleaned throttle body
- new air filter
- even took the injectors to a local place that was able to restore, clean and test them.
- looked over the wiring and everything seems clean and intact
I probably didnt need to do some of these but it all goes towards its maintenance anyway so it isnt a complete waste of time.
Issues besides the code 20:
- firstly, there is no eld in the fuse box nor is there a connector for one. We dont have them here in aus.
- Speed on cluster either isnt working correctly or doesnt work (tested on a different cluster).
- Consumes a little more fuel than usual.
- Acceleration issues, just freakin slow!
- Really dim low beams and keeps blowing bulbs for the brake lights.
- Had an idle surge for a bit, has dissapeared after putting new fuel pump in (as far as I know it hasnt returned).
- High idle (?) sits at 1.5-1.8.
- The rpm when I press the clutch in stays the same and doesnt go up/move when downshifting. Idk if that makes sense but rarely happens.
- sometimes struggles with downshifting from 3-2 and 2-1. Did this after I changed transmission fluid. Doesnt do this anymore.
- before the new fuel pump, it would lose power and nearly stall after starting. Or it would bog down and nearly stall after accelerating once the traffic lights go green. Foot flat does bugger all Not sure if the wiring could be the issue?
Pretty much my car is slow and it was fine before the timing belt.
I wanted to check the wiring anyway and followed the diagram that ive posted to see if everything was in the correct place. Not sure if its the right one to use for Aus? Many seem to be the wrong colour or in the wrong pin hole and some are empty where there should be a wire. One of the wires in connector A has an extension running to another wire in connector B. Looks tampered with imo.
No eld wire in any of the connectors (green red wire). Could the US ECU with the eld be causing the o2 issues?
only green and red wire is from the in cabin fuse box that goes to the handbrake switch, so obviously not related.
Should I test a different ECU? Would an ECU from America not be compatible with my Australia eg engine?
Really wanting to figure this out instead of taking it to someone. Something about learning everything I can and doing the work myself gives me peace of mind. Mind you I didnt know much when I took it home but im still learning and continue as I go.
I attached photos of what the scan tool picked up as well as Im not sure what im looking for.
have been mainly doing suspension work as it was really needed.
will also be getting a new clutch kit as the clutch is soft and im sure its what is causing shifting issues.
Thanks in advance!

Reason: Diagnosed code 20 issue
