Spring rates for a f20b swapped CRX
Hey guys, so I recently got a 1990 CRX HF that was f20b swapped by one of it's previous owners. Right now I'm trying I'm planning on upgrading the coilovers cause it currently has skunk2 coilovers, which I think are shot cause the ride is pretty bouncy (could also be some bushings are bad, which I do plan on replacing soon). Anyways, I figure skunk2 coilovers are knownn to not be the best coilovers anyways, so I want to upgrade to either progress of koni yellows/ ground control. (well maybe other coilovers, haven't decided yet exactly). The main thing I want to know is if anyone has recommendations for spring rates consider long that my engine is heavier than stock. I want my car to have a pretty sporty feel, but it is a daily driver. I was thinking 450f and 350r. If anyone knows about spring rates when it comes to F/H series swaps, let me know
The weight difference between motors is minimal in comparison and won't affect spring rates.
I have personally changed front spring rates and there was no difference that would matter for street driving.
Spring rate comfort is determined by the rear springs. It makes sense because the mass is forward, CG is closer to forward, so what the rear does has a much larger leverage and affects the ride quality more.
I recommend you stay at the standard 350/250 springs for a CRX.
And I recommend progress over Koni/GC.

okay, but my skunk2 coilovers currently are like 450f 450r I believe, and they don't seem too bad to me. (Ignoring the bouncy nature). And I have Form and function type 2s on my integra, which are even stiffer (12kg and 8kg whatever that conversion is) and I don't mind those either. Are spring rates not exact between brands?
Progress are a good option for coilovers in my opinion and you can order whatever spring rates you want, and swap the springs out if your preferences change. CS2 are a good value, or go with CS3's if you plan any track time or want adjustable damping.
For my street setup I started with 450lb front and 350lb rear springs. It's a fairly comfortable ride but a good bit stiffer than stock.
The difference in ride quality you notice between brands has more to do with the dampers. A spring is a spring.
