Default 1987 Accord Hatchback LXi - long run time on fans

I've noticed that after I turn off the engine the fans will spin up and run for an extended time. I am pretty sure more than 20 minutes or more. Is there a temperature sensor that perhaps is faulty to cause this? My main concern is the battery if this run time happens to increase. Any suggestions appreciated to resolve.

Kind Regards

Yes, there is an under the hood temp sensor, not too sure about the exact location on the Accord, on the civic it is on the passenger side fender next to the ignition coil. It is a solid state piece.

You can pull the fuse for the electric fan, until the temp is back to normal, same here, parked and come back 10min later and the fan is spinning, radiator temp normal.

Another thing that happened to me, the radiator cap started to slowly fail and not holding pressure, which resulted in higher radiator temp, but nothing above the mid range... after I changed the radiator cap, this out of control fan never occured again... And yes for a while I tried to debug the temp sensor or the relay which is on a timer, there is a link somewhere on how to bypass the electric fan timer so the fan does not kick in when the ignition is off, but never bothered with it.
