I sent my car to a 3rd party service station due to the service cost at the dealership being too high. The workshop was highly recommended but messed up my car. I immediately noticed that when I fetched the car it struggled to start. A good few seconds of cranking before it starts compared to under 3 seconds previously. They obviously said there was nothing that they did to cause this. This was the 90K service. They needed to do valve clearances and replace the fuel filter which they assured me they did. On the following services when I needed to replace the filters I saw that they used cheap replacement filters and even shoved a cabin filter that was not correct into place squashing it in to make it fit. Honda spares are very expensive here(South Africa) and after-market equivalents are hard to find. Now I know that there is no way they replaced the original fuel filter with one from Honda as it costs half the price they charged me for the service. I suspect that they either hacked my existing filter to use a filter from another car or broke something in the existing filter assembly. The fuel line is not holding pressure when it is warm. If I cycle the key a few times then it starts immediately. When it is cold it does not have an issue starting. Sometimes when it is cranking if I turn off the key from starter position to ignition position it starts immediately. Almost as if the pump is not running when cranking but kicks in just as the key moves to pos 2. How can I troubleshoot exactly what the issue is? I have bought the replacement filter from Honda but am struggling to find any detailed instructions on how to change this myself.
