Default 2002 accord se engine/trans swap questions

what’s up everybody, this is my first forum post, I’ve been tryin to do my homework here but theres a couple things I haven’t exactly been able to chase down so I figured I’d jus ask here-

i have a pretty much bone stock 02 accord se, f23a4 mated the the maxa 4 speed. I’ve been wanting to manual swap it for the 6 months I’ve had it but I’m having a hell of a time sourcing an f series transmission and I was wondering what my options are.

Ive heard anything h series would work but I am also quite inexperienced with custom fabrication (mounts, axles, driveshaft, etc) and as it’s my daily driver I’d rather not end up having to stop my project halfway through and do a whole bunch more research. I’m not afraid of any kind of work involved in the swap, i just don’t want to end up in over my head with my car in pieces 🤣. Lmk what y’all know, and thanks for readin

as far as I'm aware any H-series 5 speed would essentially be a bolt-in option for a factory equipped manual 6th gen accord. You'll need mounts and brackets anyway to do the auto to manual conversion, but there shouldn't be any fabrication required. all OE stuff should work. the gearing will be better too compared to the accord 5-speed.

The H and F series transmissions are interchangeable. Certain models had speed sensitive steering, so you might find a couple of hoses on the speed sensor if the transmission came from a model that was equipped with it. You can either leave the hoses disconnected or swap in a speed sensor that doesn't have the hoses.

I have a couple of manual transmissions that I can spare if you can't find one.

Edit - You'll probably want to steer away from the M2U4 trans from the SH Prelude.

Transmission control is built into the ECU so you'll need to swap in the manual trans specific ECU. I don't remember off the top of my head if the connectors/pinout are the same, but I can check the FSM.

EDIT: confirmed the ECU connectors are the same, you'll just have some extra unused wires from the auto.

I sold my '01, 4-cyl, 5-spd Accord 10 years ago so I haven't been keeping up with all that's out there for it now, but at the time there was no way to flash the ECU to work as a manual.
