Long Buzzer sound when braking at end of pedal - any help is appreciated
Hello, I have a 01 ex and it has done me right for a while but is starting to have issues.
- when braking the pedal will stop
when close to stopping a buzzing sound is heard and the pedal vibrates.
almost like it’s engaging abs.
I replaced the rotors and pads and the brakes work still but this issue is happening. I notice it is more prominent in the heat. It happens in the cold too but one hot day it felt a lot more intense.
I took it to a couple places with some good Honda techs but got all different answers. I don’t know how safe this is to drive is my main concern.
the buzzing sound lasts for a couple seconds and then stops. It is almost every time I stop.
I have not done the rear brakes in a while. Not sure if that could have any effect. I will post a video when I get back. The sound is loud and can be heard from outside the car. I could only describe it as a loud buzzer noise after I press the pedal maybe 75%.
I have check engine light on for
p1298 - ELD
p0138 - 02 bank 1 sensor 2
p1456 - gas cap probably
Car has other problems but they are managed. No codes for them. Any idea what this is would be helpful.

nothing valuable. One thought it was my caliper and the other thought I needed flush the brake fluid. To me it sound and feels like abs is kickin On slightly. I will check abs sensor see if it’s in tack. I’ll post a video when I get off this flight and get to the car.

A brake caliper that has frozen on its pins, and is no longer free floating could cause hot spots, and be dragging, or somehow triggering your abs to kick in. I would say to check this, but you said you changed your brake rotors and pads, so this would have been inspected for proper operation and lubrication at that time.
This is what I thought as well. That there is an air bubble or water contamination in the brake system that may be causing you problems. A brake fluid flush would fix both. When you said, "I notice it is more prominent in the heat. It happens in the cold too but one hot day it felt a lot more intense." That made me think it was something to do with your fluid.
What process did you use to collapse your brake calipers in order to make room for the new pads? Did you bleed the brake fluid afterwards? Is your brake fluid clear looking, or does it look like honey, or does it look like coffee?
From what you have described that would be my guess as well. But what is kicking on your ABS prematurely? Easiest would be a brake fluid issue. Then I would check wheel speed sensors. Past the brake fluid issue though, you should be getting a code of some sort, because you don't want to take chances with your brakes not working. The suggestions the Honda Techs made, were probably agreeing with you that its ABS related. They just failed to say this to you, and just jumped right on what could be the source of the problem with the ABS, or what is causing the ABS to malfunction. ie Bad Caliper, Contaminated Brake Fluid
Did you tell the Honda Techs about the P1298 - ELD Electric Load Detector Code? I don't know a lot about the ABS systems, but they rely on the electronic wheel speed sensors a lot. So anything that is messing up electronic loads, may also be affecting their performance as well. I don't think this is your issue. But if you are not finding anything else wrong with your ABS system, you might look into what is causing this problem. Because an EDL code will eventually start messing with your idle speed as well.

When you said it made a noise only when you hit the brake pedal, I at first thought someone pranked you like this:
Update !!! Solved the problem! The line with the sensor from the abs to the hub was destroyed. My hubs were so beat that they warped the caliper and cooked the line. I replaced both lines and the full knuckle on both sides. Also took the opportunity to get new rotor pads and calipers on both sides. The car now spots perfectly. No sounds no grinds, the buzzing had stopped and it is now safe to drive. I drove on the highway and in the rain no problems. Thank you everyone who gave me suggestions!
