Weird coolant problem
So basically last night I was backing up to park and notice car started overheating. I backed up and cut car off. And noticed smoke coming from hood. Then I saw all my coolant just pouring from underneath car. This morning I go and fill up radiator which was empty. Just to see where leak is better now. And I can’t see a single drop anywhere. I turned car on for 5 min and still nothing. Too paranoid to drive right now. I just had the clutch master cylinder replaced few days ago. But can’t see why that would affect this. And no clue how to figure out leak.
It may not even be a leak. How often had you checked the fluid or especially the over flow reservoir?
If never, it could have just slowly gotten low, then ran hotter and hotter until it overheated.
I have always had this issue with my 80's & 90's Honda's I have to add fluid every 6 months-year..
Just filling the radiator is not enough. Also after you fill it, you should still check it periodically for the next few days.
The issue could be in a heater or cooling hose behind the engine where you really can't see unless you get under the car and start squeezing hoses. It could be the heater core (smell of antifreeze in the cab or using the defrost fogs up the window)or even a head gasket considering that you don't see any coolant leak (leaking into the oil). If the head gasket is blown between a cooling jacket and the engine cylinder, when you remove the cap, you should be getting water spray out of the radiator. This would be different then taking the cap off hot, check it while running a cold engine. There is even a weird tool that you can use in teh top of your radiator to see if there are exhaust gases getting into the coolant, though it is only semi accurate.
