2000 honda civic wont idle in drive and shuts off when hot
so we just replaced the water pump and timing belt. the car was running fine for a few days. then while driving about 50 mph the car shut off and wouldnt start. cranked but no start. i pushed it to the gas station and changed the crank position censor. car started up and sounded good. but on the next start the engine was shaking check engine light was flashing and wouldnt idle in drive. autozone read the codes random misfire and misfire in cylinder 2. drove it about 15 miles and the overflow tank was boiling but the dash temp gauge read normal. so i then cleaned the fuel injectors, replaced the spark plugs and wires, then replaced the distributor and coolant temp sensors. cleaned the throtlebody replaced air filter plus new radiator cap and flush. fuel filter? replace the cat? o2 sensors? idk at this point. it starts up a little easier but i still have to gas it. when it does idle it will only do it for 30 to 40 seconds at extreemely low power before shutting off. heats up rather quickly and since i replaced the coolant tep sensor and the fan switch the fan started coming on but doesn't anymore. is it the ecu? oh and sometimes while driving it will lag and shift hard(which made me think that this whole time the timing has been off a tooth.) i know its a lot of information to take in but hopefully i was able to explain well enough to possibly diagnose the problem. im about done with this car.
If you have a blown head gasket, it can overflow the coolant reservoir. Rent a radiator pressure tester kit for free at AutoZone and see if your cooling system holds pressure.
