95 Civic LX trunk won't pop open automatically
So here's the "fun" project of the weekend for me.
My '95 civic lx trunk wouldn't pop open automatically. When I pull the trunk release lever or unlock it manually with the key, the trunk wouldn't move at all even though it's unlocked. If I take my hand and push it up, it'll open just fine and stay in that position.
I figured the trunk support struts must've given out. So I spent the last couple hours replacing them with ones from Amazon that "Fit a 1995 Honda Civic" ... which they did ... eventually ... with lots of applied force.
Except now that the new struts are in place, the problem isn't fixed! WTF? That trunk should be popping up like a new recruit at reverie but it just sits there. It's definitely still unlocking and I can push it open just fine. It'll stay in the open position, as well.
I'm at a loss what could be wrong here. Any thoughts?
