I have a 97 Prelude that we just drove about 200!miles on a day trip. Everything was running fine until we got off the freeway. I noticed I lost power steering, checked the pump and the pulley had sheered off the hub. Never seen that before and I didn't see it laying in the engine bay anywhere, assuming it has just fell onto the road. anyway, it wasn't until we were about to get back onto the freeway when I heard something flapping and being ripped apart and a puff of smoke came from under the hood. Here the pulley was laying on top of the serpentine belt and had dislodged it from the motor, so now no alternator or a/c. I've ordered new pump and belts so this is an easy fix. My car has a slight exhaust leak and was pretty loud, but now it's very quiet. It also revs up and down in idle, up to 2000 rpm back down to 800, until I give it some gas and start driving, then it stops and idles fine. Also having an issue with the car just shutting off while driving, the gauges will dip down to 0 then back up, then the car just shuts off. I've heard it was a recall issue with the ignition but I replaced the switch. I have to restart the car while coasting. So 1. Why is my car so quiet now and 2 why is the rpm idle jumping up and down and 3 why is it shutting off abruptly. Please help! I've had this car since graduating HS and would hate to have to see her go!!
