Automatic Transmission fluid change out
Good Day to you All.
I have a 1991 Honda Accord LX 2dr Coupe. Automatic transmission.
The transmission fluid looks OK and smells OK. It is filled to the proper level and having no issues with the transmission.
I have had the car 3 years and only put about 18,000 miles on it.
I'm the second owner
First owner drove it a lot more then I do. So total mileage is around 256,000.
Car runs and drives great. Last oil change I went full synthetic on the engine oil. I thought I would give it a try.
I believe the transmission fluid was last changed about 40,000 miles ago.
I'm thinking about changing it. I have a pump that connects to a drill so I just put a hose down the "dip stick" fill tube and suck out as much as I can get.
Then fill with new fluid. I know some old fluid gets left behind.
What transmission fluid should I use? What about dinosaur oil, or full synthetic, or synthetic blend?
How much does it hold when bone dry?
I know to check fluid level the oil needs to come up to temperature. But what about when draining it?
I can get oil locally from Walmart, AutoZone, or O'Reilly's. Other than a one location Independence store that's it for auto parts around here.
Honda dealer is 120 mile round trip.
As always I thank for your response and help.
