Hi all, I just bought a 03 em2 ex. It's running stock d17a2. The previous owners installed what I believe to be a d16y8 Intake Manifold. It's throwing multiple codes:
P1106: Barometric Pressure Sensor Range/Performance Problem
P1519: Idle Air Control Valve (IACV) Circuit Malfunction
So, the wiring on the job they did is actual garbage, they didn't extend any of the wires+plugs to go where they need to be. They put JB weld on the throttle body to plug where the Map sensor would be mounted. They used the top port of the intake with a hose leading to the Map sensor?
They did use a wire to extend to the TPS (3 prong) but just jammed the stripped wires into the designated plug. (which I'm going to extend and add the proper plug)
The IACV is plugged in (3 prong plug), but coolant lines aren't there which I've been told is only needed in colder climates so the IACV won't freeze? (I'm in South Florida so I think I'm ok)
I would like to just get a new Throttle body, Map, TPS, and IACV and wire this all correctly. Every single d16y8 throttle body I've seen has the IACV ontop. The existing throttle body on there now has the IACV on the bottom. If anyone can help me identify this throttle body so I can just buy a new one that isn't jb welded shut and fix this hack job.
hello I also recently purchased a 03 em2 with a d17a2 and it also has a d16y8 intake manifold, the car doesn't have any codes or anything, car runs decent seems like it dose kind of lack in power, but is that suppose to be better or is it worse for the engine, what are the benefits of it? funny thing is my intake manifold is also blue lol
From what I can tell in these photos, that is a Y8 auto TB. the manual ones just have a coolant bypass/feed in place of the IACV on the bottom.
Yes I dug alot to find this out, I'm already ordered the d16y8 auto throttle body to the existing d16y8 intake manifold, but main issue from here is to get the sensors to work (because they are different shape but also 3 pin), so I thought of cutting off all the d17a2 sensors and rewiring them to d16y8 3 pin connectors. To the scrapyard I go for 96-00 3 pin connectors

From the looks of the photo they did the mod that most people do in the write ups I've seen on the D16y8 intake manifold on the D17a2. They reuse the D17a2 throttle body but needs to be modified in some ways to work properly, (mounting bolts need to be bored out and the throttle body itself to port match the gasket seen below) etc. This will result in the IACV being ontop. As I states in previous reply to fix the problem I ordered a d16y8 automatic throttle body and I'm going to cut all the d17a2 3 pin connectors off (map, tps, iacv) and rewire them to d16y8 3 pin connectors and call it a day. Also very funny they are both painted blue, seems like that was the only high heat resistant paint available at home depot LMAO!
