Honda gets ripped a new one by SCC!!
so did anyone else read the 8 car shootout this month in sport compact car? the one in which the new Si comes in dead last place and they basically say it was a waste of their time to even test it??
unfortunately, i agree with them. what is honda doing lately? compared with all these other sub $20k cars, the new Si sucks. here's the rundown of the winners
1st - Dodge SRT-4
2nd - Mazdaspeed Protege
tie 3rd - Ford SVT Focus
tie 3rd - Mini Cooper S
5th - Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec V
6th - Hyundai Tiburon V6
7th - Volkswagon GTI 1.8t
8th - Honda Civic Si
the only thing they really liked about the Si was the seats and the steering wheel. the rest they said was a big step in the wrong direction for honda.
opinions??

Yeah i just got done reading it. I don't think anyone is impressed with the new Si. As much as a hate to say it, the new Neon is going to be handing alot of honda owners their asses with a "stock" car.
i just read it. i drove a new civic, just a regular one, and it was a joke. what can ya do. maybe the next gen will be worth a s*it and bring honda back to life.

It sucks for a stock car, but name one Honda that doesn't other than the ITR, S2000 and NSX. IMO, all Civics, Integras and ludes have sucked bone-stock, even the GSR and all Si's.
Put some decent tires on the new Si, some springs/shocks and an intake, and you've switched the finishing position from 8th to probably 2nd or 3rd.
Personally, I wouldn't own a neon, even if it had 500hp and AWD. It's still a chrysler. The Mazda is pretty cool, but otherwise everything on the Si is ready to be upgraded, just like all of the past Si's. You can't honestly tell me the 99-00 Si was a better stock car in any aspect than the new one, because it wasn't.

i wouldn't have rated the si over any of those cars other than maybe the GTI, I dont feel the si has much to offer compaired to those that have just been released.
hey todd - how about you research the new Si. the engine sucks ***. it doesn't respond to mods nearly as well as the B16a does. i know you hate civics in general, but try researching things before you speak.
new neon srt4 is gonna be a BADASS sport compact under $20k---245ft/lbs of TORQUE!!!---then again, being a former neon RT owner, i guess i'm kinda biased toward the lil' bugeyes...
I agree I do not like the new civic Si. I don't know what Honda has been doing latly but the only other honda I will ever buy other then the one I have now will be the S2000.
1st - Dodge SRT-4 (turbo)
2nd - Mazdaspeed Protege (turbo)
tie 3rd - Ford SVT Focus (?)
tie 3rd - Mini Cooper S (turbo)
5th - Nissan Sentra SE-R Spec V (n/a)
6th - Hyundai Tiburon V6 (v6?)
7th - Volkswagon GTI 1.8t (turbo)
8th - Honda Civic Si (N/A)
so a bone stock N/A honda finished 8 of 8 next to 4 turbo'd cars, a freakin 6 cyl, and two other n/a cars? i'm not all that surprised. redo the test against the non-turbo'd and 4cyl versions, you'd get a different result i'm sure.
the civic is the benchmark by which all other manufacturers and enthusiasts rate their respective sport compact cars. i guarantee in the first paragraph of the first review in any mag for these other cars you'll read something like 'should fare well against the civic' or 'will give the civic a run for its money.' it's taken until now for the rest to catch up.
and while they have been able to surpass the civic in hp numbers and beat it in price this year, i don't think many civic owners are gonna sell their cars and go out and buy a neon. what happened with the wrx will not happen with dodges and fords, doesn't matter how cheap they are.
i do not have the issue of SCC yet, and look forward to reading it. i do however have every issue for the last year or so, and i trust the opinions of the scc staff above all else. from what i remember, they loved the cooper s, really liked the protege, and were bummed by the spec v. i'm sure they had good reasons for saying what they said.
btw, the seats and steering wheel in the si rule.
but i still wouldn't buy one.

NEW Si should be called Civic EX hatchback, cuz thats what it is, its a hatchback civic ex. has nothing to do with what the Name Si embodies.
dont forget that all the regular mass produced cars placed bad in those rankings, all the short run limited production cars placed on top.......
its only natural that the si placed last, its not a compact sports car.... thats a given... people think so cuz its an "Si", but again, Honda SHOULD RENAME IT CIVIC EX HATCHBACK.

i hope honda comes out with another short run limited production car soon. even though the 99-00 Si wasn't THAT limited, when you compare it to what else was on the market at that time, it was at the top of the heap. but, now look at what honda has. not much of anything. don't get me wrong, i love honda. but, i just think they are "backpedalling" as SCC puts it. everyone else is moving forward and honda is standing still or moving backward.
btw, the SVT focus is n/a 4 cylinder too. and SCC didn't just look at speed. they looked at handling and everything.

-stock is like 14.3??? 14.5??? something like that: ahhhh who gives a ****, faster than a civic is my point

for the new si

The point is that "WE" being the consumer have to sink the money into over priced parts to get our hondas to go fast...Why cant honda just put it on the cars itself and not screw the consumer like it does....at almost every turn honda has did something to thumb their nose at the import scene...like never bring over a full production run of the ctr...honda needs to get their heads out of their corperate asses and see what everyone in the import community needs from them...not what they think we need!!!...just my 2 cents
And who gives a **** about seats...they dont make a slow car go fast all they do is make a slow car LOOK fast!!!!

i think honda pushed each one of the names of each civic for marketing purposes just so that someone looking for a name would get an si to be comfortable with haveing something above the dx or ex. All it really is is marketing and once the ctr comes out it will definately be a different story.
