1999 Civic Ex .making sense of rear control arm
Had the yearly inspection and was told that the "rear control arm bushings were bad". I am just going to replace the arms, rather than deal with bushings. So in getting my order together I am finding a lot of different parts that fall under "rear control arm".
There is something called "rear lower forward compensator arm"
...and an identical looking item is called "Rear toe link".
and then just "rear compensator arm" (no mention of upper or lower or forward)
Then we have "rear right upper" and "rear left upper".
Then there is "rear lower rearward"--no left or right designated
Then there is "rear lower forward"--no left or right designated
Then we have simply "rear lower".
Then there is the elusive "rear forward lower upper front back trailing leading compensator toe link"
(kidding of course, but damn! the terminology is making my head spin)
I am sort of at a loss. How many parts make up what would collectively be called the "lower control arms?" I haven't crawled under there yet, just trying to order the parts now.
Thanks for any input!

I bet he actually meant the rear trailing arms. Those are the arms that are perpendicular to the rear control arms and parallel to the car. You should replace those bushings, don't replace the arms.
I got it figured out. Thanks for the replies. So far we got most of the put in, opted to do it all. As in everything in back that had a bushing in it. I think the mechanic was talking about the rear trailing arms...those bushings are most definitely shot. We have those to do yet. I am going to try and just replace those bushings, having replaced the rest of it all with new complete parts. I see some press tools on the marker, I think that a quality 2 jaw puller like a posi lock and the right size collar would do the trick. This Civic belongs to my youngest son, who is helping me and learning in the process. We are getting it through inspection so he can use it to commute to his new job. (He also has a B18 on a stand in the garage that he is building for it) It is the 3rd civic to come through our family and I love them. I helped one of my kids put a turbo on their CRX and that was a blast. One day I will do one for myself.
Just use a heavy brass hammer from Harbor freight. Easy out, easy in. Brass hammer worked for me when the cheaper 12-ton harbor freight press failed. One of my crx trailing arms had the hole stamped slightly miss-shaped. Had to beat that S.O.B. in cause it would always **** sideways in the press. And when I finally prevented the thick from going sideways, the internal relief valve gave up pressure.
