Default 2006 CR-V PCM Swap

Hi everyone. I have a 2006 CR-V that needs a new PCM. In an effort to save some cash, I’m looking at buying used (e.g. eBay) but haven’t had much success finding an exact match for the part no. of the existing PCM:

37820-PPL-A75

While researching, I found a replacement PCM on the HondaPartsNow website. Their part number is 37820-PPA-408 and it says it replaces 37820-PPL-A75. Unfortunately, their product is $1009, which is outside of my budget. But this is what brings me to my question.

In addition to replacing my part number, this product says that it also replaces part numbers:

37820-PPA-A75

37820-PPL-A74

37820-PPA-A73

37820-PPA-A74

37820-PPL-A73

Could someone with PCM knowledge help me figure out: if I can’t find an exact match for my current PCM, are any/all of the other 5 obsolete part numbers viable options to swap with? In other words, is it reasonable to conclude that if the one replacement computer from HondaPartsNow replaces 6 others, that those 6 others might also be interchangeable with one another, or interchangeable with a little bit of tweaking? And if not, does anyone have any suggestions/input?

Any advice at all is GREATLY appreciated!

For reference, THIS is the replacement PCM that I was referring to. Thanks again.

Any of those part numbers will work. Just need to program the immobilizer when you get it.

The last 3 of the part number are just revisions.

Is it an automatic? I have a 2006 5 speed manual PCM.

Thanks so much! This is hugely helpful.
It’s an automatic, but thank you.

Two follow-up questions:
1) If the last 3 are the revision number, what’s the difference between the PPL and the PPA models?

2) Will the difference between PCMs for auto vs. manual transmissions be reflected in the part numbers, or do I need to do an additional piece of due diligence before buying a PCM? I.e. Is it possible to have two different 37820-PPL-A74 PCMs: one for automatic and one for manual, and I need to look for another designator, or would the manual one just be a totally different part no.?

Thanks again!

Isn't it wonderful a little black box has to cost as much as an engine. Problem with the black boxes is there is zero repair information, can we guess why?

I can handle this sort of thing. You would have to send me your ECU for reflashing, and I will also disable the immobilizer function.

If the ECU label has the same label, the contents of the ROM will also be the same (except for the immobilizer code). If you were to install it as is, the car will not run.

To answer your question, yes the difference in software will be noted in the part number. Which part number exactly, I am uncertain of. With that said, these ECU's are reflashable, and a manual ECU can easily be reflashed to an automatic ECU as long as I have the original ROM (which I can verify if you can give me the original part number).

If this interests you, please PM me and we can discuss rates and a timeframe.

Thanks.
