Hey guys, i recently bought this 96’ civic hatch with a b18b1. I’m still a newbie and I’m having hard timing trying to figure out what year of integra my engine is from. Any help please?

 

Looks like that head casting is stamped 6/89, which would "suggest" the engine is a 1990. What does the block stamp say ? The plate is found on the front of the block to the left of the exhaust manifold and just to the right of the transmission. The top row of letters would be B18XX and then below that is a 7-digit manufacturing number... what is the first digit on the left ?

 

Those numbers would be 3320977 right under the “B18B1” engraving

 

That would make the short block a 1992... does the head and block appear to be different colors ? There is a possibility that the cylinder head has been replaced.

 

Not to my knowledge, but the older guy I bought it from said before him his buddy had done some rebuilding. That’s something I’ll have to look at to be honest.

 

It's 30+ years old. Wouldn't be a surprise if the head was swapped at some point.
