Catalytic Converter Theft - Repair Options
2001 Black Honda Accord EX, 2.3L, 4 Cyl, SOHC, Engine Design: F23A1
Some low life cut out my Cat today.
We have no emissions testing where I live.
I know there was a 2nd O2 sensor on the cat that was stolen.
If I straight pipe it I am guessing that the engine will run rich.
They took the O2 sensor (unclipped it from the harness) as well.
If I straight pipe it, can I bypass or jumper the pins on the harness to fool the system into thinking that there is a 2nd O2 sensor in the system and that it is up to temperature?
Or is there another way around this where it isn't going to cost me hundreds of dollars?
Thanks for the help.

Originally the O2 Sensor was in the centre of the Catalytic converter . . . does the Cat not modify the gases and would that not mess with what the 2nd O2 sensor has to read?
Has any one tried this with success?
Thanks for the reply, and yes inserting a sensor bung would be a super simple (cost effective) way to solve this if the readings are not reliant on what the Cat may do to the composition of the gasses that the O2 sensor has to read.
We've had a rash of thefts in the area - some are getting them replaced only to have the thieves strike again cutting out the new ones as well.
Eliminating the Cat would solve this for me for sure if car would run normally.
Comments?
