Default 3D printed rare Civic EG parts. Lots of pics!

I´m creating this new topic mainly for visibility, but also for part requests and general talk.

Long story short. I collected some rareish parts for Civic EG some years ago. Paid high price then. Or so i thought. Today when seeing what people are asking in ebay...Its crazy.

I´m self learned CAD user. I have modelled and printed stuff from complete RC-cars to 1:1 car parts.

Some stuff i have done:

- EG heated mirror retrofit kit:

- EG 2DIN lower brackets:

- EG 2DIN upper brackets:

- EG 2DIN cigarette lighter trim plate (custom design for CRX lighter ring):

- EG 2DIN LHD complate frame + faceplate:

Against 3D scanned dashboard metal frame:

- EG Auto Climate Control venturi pipe:

- S2K AP2 center console puzzle trim plate:

I also have dual pod gathers bracket on development and some other stuff as well.

You can follow me on IG, which is HiTecMods

I´m slowly starting to get some stuff for sale. What do you think? Interesting or not? Currently my full focus is on the 2DIN. Money is just on tight and development is not free, even though printing itself is pretty cheap. I have Shining 3D:s Einstar 3D scanner and i just ordered Bambu Lab X1 Carbon with AMS as my Prusa i3MK3S is just painfully slow and it doesnt have enclosure or filtration so i cannot print ABS or ASA with it.

YES!!!! This is awesome and EXACTLY what these old cars need. Thank you very much for designing and making these.

Unfortunately what I want to replace most in my own Civic's interior is the dash itself (physically huge & very complex). I was able to get most of the smaller trim pieces I needed several years ago before the market got completely stupid. I'll definitely be bookmarking this thread and following you on IG though, because there are and will definitely be things I'd love to get replacements, or duplicates of.

Also, you're probably already aware of this but be aware Honda may go after people recreating OEM parts: https://www.thedrive.com/news/honda-...er-communities

Japan is really stupid about licensing/intellectual property.

It would be great if you could replicate the little plastic screw holding clip that holds the top of the door trim on for eg hatch/coupe. You can buy the trim new from Honda but can't install it because the clip is discontinued.

You should also pm a mod to clean up your build thread to separate your 3d printing content from your car build.

Thanks!

Yes. Im aware of that case. I think that was really upsetting and extreme reaction from Honda. If thats their choice of operation, they should then go after every aftermarket manufacturer, who makes for example bushings that look like Honda OEM, or say word "Honda" or "Civic" etc in product page. I understand their right to protect their products. It´s just...If someone else cannot make near look-a-like replacements for example discontinued items, Honda should then do us a favor and make a limited production batch or something if theres a demand for certain parts. I can see its never happening with our Civics. If what I do isn´t somehow ok with Honda and i get sued, I promise to sell or scrap every Honda I own and buy a Ford. They could have at least give 3D-community a good explanation why such an extreme reaction was taken. But nothing.

Edit: It might also be that Honda meant that the problem is sharing the "OEM"-look digital files, which then in turn can be used in many ways. Im pretty sure that if i would share my 2DIN design files somewhere, an injection molded product would pop in in ebay with some China seller in a couple of months.

@Chrisfrom1986 Yea i can do that if i find my own clip which isnt broken. And yea, I need to get my build thread cleaned up. I´ll make it happen when I´m done with this 2DIN project.

Just one picture to show the complexity of this thing that was needed at least with my limited skillset to convert this thing from metal/plastic to FDM 3D-printed.

I know there are people who say 3D-scanning is cheating. Well, it can be... kind of. But it can never make design changes between material swaps, it cant produce directly CAD-compatible filetypes (at least in consumer level), etc etc. Meshes are pain to process and edit. But it does make things easier when you need to print less prototypes to check fitments, produce baseline for your own design etc.

To summarize this 2DIN:

- Base frame and upper faceplate bezel compatible between RHD/LHD (not like OEM which is different between RHD/LHD). Base frame has one swappable spacer and additional bolt holes/screw inserts that makes it easy to swap between RHD/LHD). Only the lower faceplate which houses the ash tray and cigarette lighter is different between the versions.
- Compatible with Honda spec DIN sizes and also is compatible with true 2DIN dimensions. Which means that you can install 2DIN Headunits installation sleeve to this (which you cant do with OEM, it just doesnt fit). Compatibility between "Honda DIN" and "true 2DIN" is achieved with swappable upper faceplates horizontal bezels, which have different offsets between versions.
- Because of swappable lower faceplate, its possible to install the lower faceplate only to gain support for custom tablet installation (needs custom parts, i cant do parts for each tablet model).
- Every screw has brass thread dual counter tooth heat pressed inserts for durability.
- Stainless steel hex screws.
- All the brackets except the upper bracket is compatible with OEM stuff. (Upper bracket needs to be different in my design because of the true 2DIN compatibility).
- Rear frame section is compatible with OEM faceplate.
- Front faceplate is compatible with OEM rear frame.
- Compatible with OEM outer bezel/skin or whatever its called.

I am trying to develop 3D-printable outer bezel, but its pain and honestly im running low on money. This project has already eaten every loose coin i have and even more.

Parts are printed from Carbon Fiber PETG, PETG and ASA, depending on what mechanical properties each part needs. For example the faceplate is ASA, which is ABS equilevant, while rear DIN bracket holder is PETG/CF cause it needs additional stiffness. etc.

Edit:

- 2DIN "OEM DIN pocket" compatible brackets:

Installed on latest prototype LHD 2DIN console:

This was the previous 2DIN proto. Otherwise same, but the newer proto has much better quality front lower faceplate because i optimized the print orientation from speed to quality.

This is how the "white" proto lower faceplate was printed.

Hard and slow to print, but it gets rid of the lower lip layer lines pretty much completely, which looked horrible on the previous "black proto".

Small sneak peek about the outer bezel:

EG HB Gathers dual pod rear speaker brackets (still in development, but development is on hold because 2DIN):

Actually a question to... maybe @deschlong ? I´ve been asked to design a single pod rear speaker brackets as well, but as i dont own them and cant buy them its pretty hard. By inspecting the pics, i think they are just half cut from the dual pod brackets, but can someone actually confirm it?

EG9 VTi parcel shelf speaker covers (these are meant to be wrapped over with speaker fabric to get the OEM-look):

Thank you, all the support means a lot!

@DaX Yes, I bought Shining 3D Einstar 3D-scanner for these projects some time ago, as in a long run it comes cheaper to own a good scanner that I can use it whenever I like. Here the scanning services are expensive, just like printing services. And actually just like everything else nowadays.

I just really really really hope these items sell, as I´ve poured a lot of money and personal time for these things.

Custom LHD 2DIN ashtray delete plate with fully customizable (by customer) front plate:

Shipped with Sakura; (Cherry Blossom kanji) front faceplate. Buyers will get .step file for the front plate so they can customize the front plate however they like (custom logos, switches, displays etc).

Backlit feature is designed to use OEM center console cigarette lighter wire harness with extra bulb, ofc custom things are supported as the frame has thread inserts on the back that can be used in custom projects. Compatible with OEM 2DIN LHD console and my upcoming 2DIN LHD console.

This might be the wrong place to ask questions, but I am curious what all is needed to go double DIN for my LHD USDM Civic - currently single DIN?
Do I keep my factory climate control layout?

Not a wrong place at all! 2DIN console replaces the stock cigarette lighter/ash tray/box thing between the dash and shifter console. Also shifter console cup holder is lost, as the lower bracket bolts there. You will re-use the cigarette lighter harness and cig-lighter socket from the old console. You keep the OEM climate controls where it is.

When going OEM route:
- OEM backframe + faceplate + ashtray + cigarette lighter trim plate (all from LHD, RHD doesnt work, this is common mistake).
- Upper bracket
- Lower bracket
- Outer shell. (LHD)
- Complete cigarette lighter harness/socket set from your stock console.
- And if you install OEM DIN pockets to it, you will need the OEM-"golden bracket" for it. I have that for sale as well. (Below).

If going with my solution:
- My frame kit and upper faceplate (swappable between LHD/RHD)
- My LHD lower faceplate
- OEM or my lower bracket
- My upper bracket
- My ashtray delete frame/plate kit, OEM ashtray or my upcoming ashtray. (LHD)
- My cigarette lighter trim plate, or OEM.
- OEM outer shell (LHD) (im developing outer shell kit as well)
- Complete cigarette lighter harness/socket set from your stock console.

OEM 2DIN isn´t truly compatible with 2DIN Headunits. Mine is. I offer half kits, full kits and spare parts if needed for custom builds. With half kits i mean to offer solution for those people who have OEM rear frame but no faceplate and vice versa.

My full kit includes:

- Full frame + faceplate combo. Printed from Carbon Fiber PETG (not visible parts) and ASA (visible parts).
- All the needed brackets.
- Cigarette lighter trim plate
- Ash tray delete frame + front plate + backlit bulb holder.

Other stuff like ash tray and outer shell will come later. I´m exhausted and broke from this project, so this is all i got to offer right now.

Oh man! You've been busy. I'd be interested in your double din. I sort of like the European setup as the lighter and ashtray stay down like the JDM but on the right side like stock USDM/CDM while adding support for the tray pop out type cup holders. Granted I would likely do a double din stereo and put the cup holder up where the single din stereo normally is.

I've been pretty absent, but if you point me in the direction of your build thread, I can definitely help you with moving posts around for cleanup etc. I will definitely make time to help you arrange things as you'd like them to be.

Thank you for the help @TomCat39 I´ll check the build thread cleanup when I have some more time and contact you. I´m putting all the spare time I have for these consoles, as i seriously have to start getting something back from these.

And yea, i would do the same, put the cupholder to the dashboard and move the HU to 2DIN console.

Here are couple of pics about the first production unit that im assembling. Still missing some bits and pieces, but its almost there (upper/lower brackets and aftermarket spec "true" 2DIN frame upper bezel flap)

The only thing that i dont like is that ash tray delete plates front plate. As it has that sakura logo, its needs to be printed from PETG, which gives a messy looking surface. But no worries! Heres blank front plate in .step file for custom designs! https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6288282

I seriously underestimated the amount of work whats needed to make these. Each complete unit needs over 50 heat pressed brass thread inserts (cause i dont want even a single screw that threads just to plastic), same amount of screws, all the threads need to be checked, brims, supports removed etc. Probably just my way and fault of overengineering and overthinking things, but I would hate myself if i would take shortcuts with these things.

Edit: Added two ashtray delete plates for sale in ebay as im honestly broke. I suppose its not okay to add for sale links here, so just search "Civic EG 92-95 3D printed LHD 2DIN Console ashtray delete plate" and see what you can find. Not going to help now though, ebay only does payouts month after payment.

Aaaand heres the Gathers dual pod EG6 speaker bracket/seal project currently:

Or actually if being exact, I added JDM style attachment points to the bracket, so theres no need to use the OEM metal bracket (added after taking these pictures). The mesh scan from the seal is still messy. I dont know if want to use more time to it, as i prolly wont be able to print it. Not at least in that form. It would need to be TPU to be flexible (no way to install it if it doesnt flex). And in printing the flex is synonym to slow, so no way to make it profitable. I think the seal needs a custom solution.

First two half frame sets are now available in usual place.

Edit: The white hue in some of the parts comes from my print plate. I dont use any adhesives during the prints because it leaves messy and not uniform surface, so i need to keep the nozzle offset to bed pretty low on first layer. Every part I sell is heat treated before shipping to remove the white hue.

Heat treated on left, untreated on right:

53 accurately heat pressed brass thread inserts per unit. 53 tapped threads. Countless supports removed. Hours of manual work per unit. Too much in my opinion, but thats what was in my opinion needed to make this happen.

Pics taken from my personal "production unit" without the aftermarket upper faceplate upper beam plate (forgot it to my house and just had the aftermarket bezel frame). Otherwise the same as the official production unit, my unit just has more dual colored parts. And also my personal units parts doesnt have the heat treatment, so they have that white hue visible in some parts.

In my case, the original single DIN slot will keep that alpine 1DIN head unit, as this car will have custom tablet installation on the 2DIN console and i need that alpine to act as an "DSP" between the tablet and amplifiers.

Thank you! I hope so too!

While waiting my order of filaments and more thread inserts i thought to do some testing.

First test pieces on the slicer bed (thought to add Suzuka and Twin Ring Motegi track layouts to there in dual colored because...why not? Looks cool when printer head races through Spoon curve) :
