1992 Accord ECU Not Grounding A/C Clutch Circuit
Hey Guys,
I’m hoping you guys can help me out with an issue I’ve been having with my A/C. The car for context is 100% stock DX coupe 2 door. I had a compressor clutch fail and it burned out the compressor clutch relay as well when it failed. I have since replaced both parts and now I am running into an issue where the ECU is not grounding the wire for the control side of the A/C clutch relay.
Here’s a rundown of what the car does:
The car is running and when I press the ac button the button lights up, the idle increases, and both fans come on however the A/C clutch will not engage. Tonight I got down to the ecu and manually grounded the circuit right at the ECU and the compressor clutch engages and everything works. I also tested the pressure switch up by the receiver dryer and it tests good.
my question:
Is the ECU bad or is there something else that I am missing that may be causing the ECU not to ground the circuit. Is it possible the ac clutch shorting burned up the ECU?
thank you for any input you may have!

Any input, okay
When I had a similar problem with my 89, I ended up just putting in a toggle switch for my A/C while still using the A/C button for the radiator fan etc.
I see Ebay has some ecu's for +$17 USD, though I assume it is not in the ecu it may be worth a try.

Thanks for the input, and I’m just curious why you would say that you don’t think it’s the ECU? I’m wondering if there is something else that I should test aside from what I already have to isolate the problem being the ECU?
More of a gut feeling. It seems to me that it would be more of a connection on that outside fuse box or the wires going into it. (I think that is where the clutch relay is) I would assume that more would be fried in the ecu then just the ground. I don't know a lot about or worth a lot with ecu's, so this is strictly my opinion.
Well, I am going to put in a resolution for this issue on this thread in case anyone in the future stumbles upon this thread with the same issue. Today I put in a reman cardone ecu and everything works perfectly now. I will be sure to update in the future if that does not continue to be the case but as of now everything is working as it should (ice cold lol)
A big thanks to Micro1989LXI for responding with their 2 cents as well! ☺️
