Default Having trouble with splash guard install

Hi. Got a new car, HR-V 2024. I bought the OEM splash guards online, now I’m stuck with some issues putting them on.

My problem is the plastic “clip.” I got it out by breaking it, but that’s fine, it comes with new ones.

The problem is getting the new “clip” back in and snug. I don’t know if I’m doing it right, but I can get it in some, but it doesn’t seem to catch and stay in. I can just pull it back out. Does anybody know what I need to do to push it into the hole so it stays?

it also at seems like the clip doesn’t even need put in because the other 3 tapping screws are in solid.
Thanks.

The picture is the new clip. One goes on the left wheel well and one goes on the right. Front.

Clip needs to go through the splash guard hole and the hole from the old clip.

I will say, the Honda wheel wells are made of extremely cheap and flimsy materials. I would say junk but, well, yes they’re junk. Splash guards are just going to be attached to almost cardboard like material in the wheel wells.
