I have recently purchased a 2005 Civic Coupe. I believe it is the Reverb model (Carfax listed as DX but it has the reverb body kit) manual transmission.
2005 Civic
Body is in amazing shape for the year, zero rust and only a few small dents.
I have a list of items that I need to address. I have done my best to search for solutions and some of the items I think I have some things to try. A few of them have me a little stumped.
1) Noise when starting out in 1st, sound occasionally in 2nd when accelerating. There is a noise that I can't decide if it is a growling noise or something rattling. My suspicions are either ISB or throw out bearings or something loose rattling. What has me stumped is that it is only in these gears that I hear it and it primarily occurs at the transition from clutch down to release. If I am gentle with the clutch and feather careful little to no noise. For now I plan on driving it and just going easy on it but am really curious if anyone has experienced anything similar.
2) Staying with the transmission....manual gear shift moves significantly with engine revs but only in 4th gear. There is significant movement that coencides with reving the engine but only in 4th gear. All other gears are for all intents static regardless of engine revs. Would suspect worn engine mounts if it happened in every gear but it is only in 4th. Any thoughts?
3) No DRL lights come on and no high beam lights. I need to dig in further to this and verify the obvious (good bulbs and voltage to the lights) but I'm suspecting it is actually the headlight switch as the high beam indicator on the dash does not illuminate either.
4) e-brake light stuck on....this should be an easy one. Will be ripping apart the center console to check the switch.
5) Flickering headlights, I suspect bad voltage regulator. Voltage to battery spikes over 15 v when revving. New regulator isnt bad on amazon, may try that before replacing the whole alternator. Haven't taken an alternator apart for a good 30 years but don't remember them being that complex.
If anyone has any comments or input on any of these issues please feel free to chime in
E-brake stuck switch fixed the DRL issue, I totally forgot that when the e-brake is on the DRL are shut off. The switch being stuck was holding out the DRL.
That being said I still don't have HI beams so I am going to be tearing in to the switch when I get the time.
It appears that the rattle noise is motor mount related....had my son put e-brake on and try to move in 1st and I can seen the engine move and the rattle seems to be coming from the transmission mount.
