Just bought this little space ship as our daily driver. 1986 Civic Shuttle 85k original miles. Belonged to a grandma who drove it until she died, sat for a couple of years and her grandson took possession and started fixing it up. No rust, though a few hail dings on the hood. All original minus a late 90s Sony stereo and the AC was converted. Automatic.
We love it so far but have a few items to address. Needs a new windshield, the turn signal stalk is loose and currently being held in place with tissue paper, the driver side mirror is loose and won't adjust properly or stay in place, the radiator fan bearing is squeeling like a pig, and the horn doesnt work. And of course some cup holders would be nice! It's also missing a couple of emblems but I've already sourced those on ebay.
We plan on keeping it OG unless something major needs addressed then it will be time to upgrade. If anyone has any tips, tricks or advice in regards to keeping this beast happy I'd certainly appreciate it!
Nice find, I used to have an 86 wagon auto... the only things that happened was not using the recommended spark plugs as listed on the owner's manual, the engine would buck down... put the specs one and it was back to zooooming. The other is that the automatic transmission does not have an oil filter, so it is a good idea to change the transmission fluid every 30K, it is a few quarts, easy to do.
