1999 Civic DX automatic
I've has this car for about 14 years and the AC compressor went. I decided to take it in to a local mechanic to have it done with a OEM unit, now the car shuts off with no warning,no lights on dash, It has done it about 5 times before I brought it back, The first few times, it started up after one crank, last two times about 3 or 4 cranks, One scary moment, I was on the highway going 60 and coasted over to the shoulder. I took it back to him and he cannot seem to find out the problem.
I had the fuel pump relay changed with OEM/old one did not have broken solder or discoloration
fuel pump pumping gas/filter clean
cap and rotor looked iffy so I changed it along with the ignition coil
checked my key ignition on the Honda recall page and it says my car is not affected.
the mechanic and I are lost on what to do next.
14 years never stalled/115K on the clock
The only thing I noticed is when you turn the AC on now sometimes the car had a much stronger idle than before repair
any help appreciated.

 

Its mysterious
does it do it with AC on only?
Also does it do it when you are idle so you can diagnose it in a garage.

I told them I think it’s overcharged
and it should be at least 10 degrees colder
and I said I think the new compressor maybe locking up as well.
he called me back and told me yes it was overcharged and he had another compressor ordered
They changed the compressor again
so far so good
just the idle a little rough for me ac on and
off, not stalling idle but just strong enough for me to notice, a few rpms higher
but I may have been so used to the 15 years the way it was beforehand and no ac the last 3

 

You may clean the IACV and throttle to get better idle.
