Default D16Y5 OBD 1

Hi, so I have a 93 civic DX with a 98 D16Y5 engine on it. It has been running on a OBD1 P06. My question is (the car is in great condition but the engine does not behave correctly on certain scenarios, I believe it is related to fuel maps) should I go for an engine swap or maybe there is another OBD1 ECU that I could swap on it? Since P06 was meant for D15B7, a very different Non-Vtec engine. I also thought about making the P06 Vtec, but since D16Y5 its VTEC-E, I do not think it would be a great decision.
Note: I know, the decision of that engine was not the best one, but car was given to me by family and it is my daily now, it runs ok, but I want it to be great since every other thing is in a great condition. and Civics are cool!
