2009 CR-V Power Steering Frustration
Team,
I'm at my wit's end. Last Nov. I had a tech replace the power steering pump due to it leaking from its main seal. Since then, my PS fluid gets aerated when the engine is warm. The pump/system is dead silent when the car is cold and when I first crank it. It sounds normal. However, once it heats up and I've gone 10 miles or so down the road, it whines like a supercharger due to the air getting into the system. I've (myself) replaced the O-rings on both the return and high pressure hoses twice, the plastic PS reservoir, and put worm screw clamps on two PS rubber hose leaks I found on the passenger side behind the front tire. However there is still air getting into the system. I'm not able to trace all hoses (for example the ones connecting the rack and pinion). I can pop the cap to the reservoir and watch it when idling and it constantly bubbles. When driving, the whine begins when I have to turn hard left or right and accelerate. It only gets worse from that point to where every time I touch the gas pedal it'll whine. I've tried jacking the car up and turning the wheel lock to lock to push the air out, but it seems to only be a temp fix. I need some advice because the noise is not only frustrating but slightly embarrassing at this point. I guess my question is, could air be getting in anywhere in the system, or would it only be on the intake side of the pump? Could it possibly be a defective pump even though I'm not seeing any visible leaks? I just don't know where to turn at this point.
Thanks for reading.
