Help the noob plz
Hi I have a 1998 civic hx. My d16 5 is a champ but has misfired in different ways since I got it. The first code was o2 sensors and I put in nice specific ones from rock auto.
That helped. The next code was v-tec solinoid so I replaced that with an oem one from Honda parts now. That did nothing. I realized the timing was off so I put that back to spec. The timing helped dramatically but it still misfires at the beginning of first gear then sometimes going into v tec right at about 3k and then at higher rpm's like 5.5k+ it will sometimes misfire also. Generally I can't give it full throttle or it boggs in basically any gear.
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. My next plan is to replace the distributor because I noticed it is not oem and maybe the previous owner put the wrong one in and maybe bought one for the ex because it's cheaper. I'v also heard sometimes the throttle body needs to be recalibrated. Piz someone help. I just want to get to the point where I can turbo this engine eventually but I am loosing hope trying to get past this issue. After one hour of driving it starts running like **** but runs decent before. Should I just get a new d16 maybe even from an ex to make getting parts easier if I want to turbo one, or should I keep dumping money into this one? I know y5 has v -Tec e so it's lamer but I just don't know. This is my first Honda so plz bear with me and my newcomer knowledae level. Someone help me plz.

Usually if it runs, it's not the dizzy itself but general tune up items like spark plugs, wires, dizzy rotor and dizzy cap. If after those are renewed and you still have problems, then suspect the dizzy.
